Inspired by the EvCC-to-MD journey
Dr. Arte credits Everett Community College with jump-starting her education 14 years ago. This program partners with the EvCC Foundation model—scholarships, emergency grants, and wraparound support—so the next generation of nurses, physicians, and community leaders can start where she did.

From charity care to a medical home—for everyone
Dr. Arte once relied on Providence charity care because she had no medical home. That lived experience shapes this initiative: the foundation does not provide clinical care, but it funds the community wellness Dr. Arte wished existed earlier—navigation into primary and preventive care, health literacy workshops, Somali- and ESL-accessible materials, and support for neighbors moving from emergency rooms to ongoing relationships with a clinician. It complements Street Medicine & Outreach by building medical homes before crisis, rooted in the cultural humility and shared decision-making she practices across the Pacific Northwest.

Honoring mothers who pave the way
Dr. Arte's earliest lessons in medicine came from helping her mother navigate nursing studies in a second language. This initiative funds language support, childcare stipends, and career coaching for women—especially East African and immigrant families—entering healthcare and community leadership across Snohomish County and the Seattle metro.

From Lakewood schools to white coats
Dr. Arte decided to become a doctor while still in elementary school in the Lakewood School District. Youth Ascend creates shadowing opportunities, hospital volunteer placements, and college-readiness coaching modeled on her Providence Everett senior project—the experience that confirmed her calling.

Meet people where they are
Volunteering with MercyWatch, Dr. Arte joined clinicians reaching Everett's houseless population in the city's hidden corners. The foundation funds medical supplies, volunteer clinician time, and outreach coordination with partners who share her conviction that dignity begins by showing up—literally and figuratively.
